Is there a way to get a summary of permissions for a principal? This would then help build out the frontend (ie. disable pages where the user has no access to)

Correct. (Pre)-Fetching permissions on the back end and passing them to the front end is recommended. We’ve been working on something to streamline the front-end experience, so the recommendation might change.
